Purpose: this award was first awarded in 1997 and named in honour of Dr. Michael Downing for recognition of his contribution and leadership in the pursuit of excellence in Hospice Palliative Care. It is provided to an individual or group for a study, project or evaluation related to Hospice Palliative Care. Dr. Downing personally provides an award of $500.00 to the recipient or recipients.
Eligible submissions are invited from BCHPCA members who meet the following criteria:
Criteria:
- Submissions should include the context of the study or project, the method or manner of the study or project and its results.
- The study, project or evaluation may be quantitative, qualitative or mixed method and have been completed within the last two years.
- The research can be a descriptive study of patterns of care, community linkage or partnerships. It can focus on aspects of the volunteer or professional role in Hospice Palliative Care or explore clinical trends and issues.
- The study may be the results of an individual’s university thesis related to Palliative Care.
- Submissions will be judged on relevance (30%), originality (10%), appropriate methodology (20%), significance and validity of results (25%), and format (15%).
- Submissions describing research conducted by an organization or a group must identify one contact person who will act as the representative of the group.
- A brief abstract or paper summarizing the study will be required for the awards event.
- An electronic picture of the individual or group will accompany the submission. This will be used for publicity purposes.
- Confirmation of membership in BCHPCA.
