BCHPCA's Hospice Leadership & Governance Learning Program (HLGLP) is a six month provincial learning collaborative designed to strengthen governance, leadership capacity, and organizational sustainability within community hospice societies across British Columbia and the Yukon. Bringing together Executive Directors, senior leaders, Board Chairs, Vice Chairs, and emerging hospice leaders, the program creates a shared space to learn, reflect, exchange experiences, and strengthen the organizations that support people and families through serious illness, dying, death, grief, and bereavement. |
Why This Program Matters
Hospice societies are essential community partners, providing compassionate care and support to individuals and families across British Columbia and the Yukon.
Behind this care are dedicated Boards, staff, volunteers, and leaders navigating increasingly complex challenges, including financial pressures, workforce capacity, volunteer recruitment, governance responsibilities, community partnerships, and long-term sustainability.
Strong governance creates the conditions for compassionate hospice care to thrive.
The HLGLP supports hospice leaders in navigating these realities with greater confidence, strengthening their leadership practices, and building healthy, resilient organizations that remain connected to the communities they serve.

Learning From One AnotherThe HLGLP is built on the knowledge, experience, and collective strengths of BC' and Yukon's hospice sector. Through facilitated discussions, practical resources, real governance scenarios, and peer exchange, participants explore the opportunities and challenges of leading community hospice organizations. The program draws on the LEADS in a Caring Environment Framework to connect individual leadership, healthy organizations, partnerships, and systems-level thinking. Our goal is not simply to strengthen individual leaders, but to strengthen hospice leadership and governance across British Columbia and hte Yukon. The HLGLP is part of BCHPCA's broader commitment to building accessible, relevant, and sector specific education for those governing, leading, working, and volunteering in hospice and palliative care sector. Over the next three years, BCHPCA aims to expand learning and capacity-building opportunities across three priority areas: Leadership, Governance & Organizational Capacity Strengthening the people, Boards, systems, and organizations that make community hospice palliative care possible. Hospice Palliative Care Practice & Service Delivery Supporting learning and skill development that responds to the evolving needs of people, families, caregivers, and communities. Sector & Community Capacity Building Strengthening collaboration, volunteer capacity, partnerships, community engagement, and the collective ability of the sector to respond to emerging needs. |

The BC Hospice Palliative Care Association (BCHPCA) recognizes the traditional land of the First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples who have walked before us and minded the lands we now call home for time immemorial. Hospice Societies have been able to support, aid and care for many people on these same lands. The BCHPCA Offices are located on the ancestral, traditional, and unceded lands of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and TsleilWaututh Nations.
