    This six-week online group offers a space for you and, if relevant, your partner to connect with other bereaved parents who have experienced similar losses. You’ll be invited to engage through conversation, reflection, and gentle guided writing exercises. No writing experience is necessary.

    The group is led by family therapist Shelley Hermer, who brings extensive experience supporting individuals and couples navigating the loss of a pregnancy or an infant. Her steady presence helps create a compassionate, grounded environment where each parent’s grief is witnessed with care.

    Because meaningful connection takes time, registration is intentionally limited, and we ask participants to commit to attending all sessions. Before the program begins, you will receive a phone call from the therapist to answer questions and help you prepare for the group.

    To participate fully, you will need a device equipped with a microphone and camera and the ability to access Zoom.

    This 8-week online program provides opportunities for adults who are bereaved to connect, to share their experiences of loss in a supportive environment, to honour their loved ones, and to learn strategies that can assist them in coping as they grieve.

    The structured portion of each session lasts for one hour. Afterwards, participants have the option of staying online for an additional half hour for informal conversation, community building, and gentle connection.

    Group members are asked to commit to attending all eight sessions of the series, and to notify the group leader in advance if they are unable to attend. Registration is limited to twelve participants to ensure the group remains intimate and supportive. To take part, you will need a computer, tablet, or phone equipped with a microphone and camera, and the ability to access Zoom.

    Groups are facilitated by experienced therapists, assisted by trained volunteers. Specific group guidelines and technical requirements will be sent to participants shortly before the start of the program.

    This monthly virtual group brings together grieving children ages seven to twelve in a Minecraft world created especially for them. Facilitated by one of Lumara’s therapists, the group offers a chance for kids to connect with others who have experienced the loss of a loved one, all while having fun building, creating, and exploring in a familiar and engaging online space.

    The group takes place in Minecraft’s Bedrock Edition, which can be downloaded onto most devices. Participants will also need a second device for Zoom so they can chat with one another while they play. Because meaningful connection is important, space is limited to eight players.

    Facilitated by counsellor and published writer Tama Recker, this series is suitable both for those with no writing experience and for seasoned writers. Participants are guided to access creative thinking and mindfulness practices that support listening to inner thoughts, feelings, and their grief process in new ways.

    As different pathways of listening open, the possibility of shifting heavy emotions, restrictive beliefs, and long-held patterns becomes more available. This gentle approach invites reflection and expression while honouring each person’s unique experience of grief.

    Group members are asked to commit to attending all six sessions of the series and to notify the group leader in advance if they are unable to attend a session. Registration is limited to twelve participants to support a grounded, intimate space. To participate fully, you will need a computer, tablet, or phone equipped with a microphone and camera, and access to Zoom.

    Join us for the screening of the film No Fixed Address: The White Cart Memorial, followed by a panel discussion on grief and homelessness.

    Join the UVic Institute on Aging & Lifelong HealthBC Centre for Palliative CareVictoria HospiceIsland Health, and Kelowna Homelessness Research Centre, for the first showing of the film in Victoria BC, followed by a panel discussion.

    Film Screening
    No Fixed Address: The White Cart Memorial is a powerful and intimate documentary that sheds light on a deeply overlooked aspect of the homelessness crisis: people's grief following the death of someone they care about. Through the voices and stories of individuals living with unstable housing in Kelowna, the film explores what it means to grieve without a house, and how loss echoes through a community already struggling to survive.

    Centered around the creation and meaning of the White Cart Memorial—a grassroots, mobile tribute to unhoused lives lost—the film weaves together research, personal lived experience testimonies, community organization reflections, and future action plans for the city of Kelowna. This film captures the emotional and logistical challenges of grieving in public spaces.

    Dedicated to the memories of all unhoused lives lost—and those who carry their grief forward—No Fixed Address: The White Cart Memorial urges us to rethink how we hold space for mourning in public, and how we can come together to build more compassionate, inclusive systems of care. Because only through community can we create safer places to grieve, to heal, and to remember.

    Panel Discussion
    The post-screening panel will include:
    Carley McConnachie, PEERS, Outreach Worker;
    Heidi Wigmore, Victoria Hospice, Grief Counsellor;
    Joshua Black, co-producer and director of No Fixed Address;
    Kim Toombs, AVI Health and Community Services, Senior Director;
    Marion Selfrige, Cool Aid Community Health Centre, Research Manager; and
    Stephanie Laing, co-producer and director of No Fixed Address.

The BC Hospice Palliative Care Association (BCHPCA) recognizes the traditional land of the First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples who have walked before us and minded the lands we now call home for time immemorial. Hospice Societies have been able to support, aid and care for many people on these same lands.

The BCHPCA Offices are located on the ancestral, traditional, and unceded lands of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and TsleilWaututh Nations.
